Description: Two volume set of Smollett’s last picaresque novel in good Condition. Told in an epistolary fashion, this is considered one of Smollett’s most entertaining reads. Influenced by the author’s travels in Italy and France, much of the humor arises from the misconceptions and varying interpretations of the characters to the events they are involved in. These were bound for the Essex Institute, a library and “improving” society of Salem and attempts have been made to erase or remove the name of the previous owner. Nice leather binding with the institute’s name on the spine. Excellent gift for the aspiring collector as this is still a good read and these two volumes are still in nice enough condition to be handled and read, albeit gently. Please don't hesitate to email with questions or for more pictures. Good Condition: 12mo, (7”X4”), leather boards, page discoloration due to age and some foxing, loose front papers and loose front board in Volume One, pretty ornaments on title pages and introductory page. “The Expedition of Humphry Clinker”.
