Description: Antique Ephemera- Land Contract 1746-Co. Fermanagh, Ireland-Signatures, Seals Written on parchment. Parchment does not yellow like paper does. I have every reason to believe that this is a genuine contract. Closely examine the document as well as the seals and signatures. If you are for any reason dissatisfied with your purchase I will refund you in full and pay for the return shipping. Very Large, 18" x 15.5" This contract was written for a transfer of land, probably from father to son, in the County of Fermanagh in what is now Northern Ireland and was at the time another territory of the British Empire. So even though this is a contract for land in Ireland, it's an English contract and even mentions being done under the auspices of King George II.The English were always big on contract law and this does not disappoint, with many, many, details mentioned. These were men of wealth, known as "landed gentry". The father started out as Hugh Montgomery but is identified here as "Hugh Montgomery Willoughby". He had to add the Willoughby in order to inherit his wife's family property. That's not mentioned in the contract, I did a little research. The other party is Robert Montgomery, a son or relative of some sort. The material this is written on has parchment. It is extremely tough and DOES NOT TURN YELLOW. It's mounted on that mat now but spent hundreds of year folded up in someone's safe, or desk drawer. The SIGNATURE ink has faded and turned rusty, as old inks will since they were mostly iron oxide. The writing is still legible. The wax seals are present but deteriorated. This is a large document, 18"x 15.5" and suitable for display. It was recently framed but no longer is, but still attached to the board. The reverse side is shown in the last two pictures with a close-up of the writing on the back. I took close-ups of a quarter of the document each for close examination. It will be shipped flat.
