Description: I would like to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! USS Dunlap was one of eighteen Mahan Class destroyers built in the mid-1930s. The box says Dunlap Class, since the last two Mahan class ships were started a few years after the rest were completed and had some changes. That would make the USS Dunlap the lead ship in a 2-ship subclass within the Mahan class. Dunlap was bound for Pearl Harbor on December 7th, so was undamaged. She spent WWII in the Pacific and survived the war unscathed (except for a collision with USS Belleau Wood in January 1944). Her service life ended shortly after the war and was sold at the end of 1947. MidShip Models was a brand from the fine folks at Trident Hobbies before they were sold to Free Time Hobbies (which also now has Squadron, Gold Medal Models, True Details, etc.). Sadly, MidShip Models no longer exists, but it seems the molds may still be used for the Blue Ridge Models line. This kit shows the 1938 pre-WWII configuration and USN camouflage scheme. I found only two listings for this kit on eBay (getting rare), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this hard-to-find model: The Free Time Hobbies and Squadron websites no longer show any MidShip Models kits, so I assume they are Discontinued or Out of Production. Scalemates.com shows that this is a 2005 release based on a new tooling of the same year. They have a link to download the concise, full-color 5-page instruction set and painting guide. There are links to some aftermarket parts and reference materials which might come in handy. Michael Benolkin delivered a brief First Look Review on the cybermodeler.com website with photos of two sprues and the decals. He provides a short history of the ship before describing the kit contents. He raves about the instructions, saying other manufacturers should follow this example. He notes the numerous weapon systems and even indicates that there is a resin part for the bridge included (who knew?). He wraps up the review saying: “This is an impressive kit and I can't wait to see what other destroyer classes are coming in this series!” Timothy Dike posted a very nice In-Box Review on the modelwarships.com website with over two dozen photos of the sprues, instructions and decals. He gives an extensive history of the ship and her service record. He points out a couple of mistakes in the instructions. He liked the detail and quality of the kit and the outstanding decals. In his Conclusions, he says: “The kits from this new manufacturer are improving in quality with every release.” This kit is in a compact box about 11” x 5” x 1.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the kit is in great condition and still sealed with tape disks, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains highly detailed plastic parts, one resin part and a sheet of colorful Microscale decals to make a waterline hull model of this pre-war Mahan-class (or Dunlap-class) Destroyer as she looked in 1938. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. Auction winner pays winning bid plus, for a limited time, I am offering this kit with $5 Flat Rate Shipping in the US! No reserve and a low starting bid. Check out my other great auctions and listings for combined shipping. Good luck! Those familiar with my listings can tell that I really enjoy these products and the modeling hobby. I like to provide more than just the bare facts about the items, trying to lead you into discovering more about the subjects and optimizing your builds (if that is your goal). I started out picking up models that I was interested in, with the eye toward building them when I had time. Always a bargain-hunter, I accumulated many more than I can build, so I found myself in a Collector status (sounds nicer than a hoarder). As I am sure you have noticed, my items are almost always sealed and in mint condition (I call them Gift-Ready), since I only open them when I am ready to build them. Now I enjoy making these products available to my fellow modelers; both Builders and Collectors. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
