You should be able to un-tape just the top cardboard so you can see the complete set without risking anything falling out or apart. Anything rearranged or changed is not eligible for return. If you do need to return a set for any reason, you must contact us first and you MUST package and tape it very well or it will fall apart in shipment. If it is returned to us not exactly the same as you received it, eBay will void your return. DESCRIPTION Only Set: There are roughly 1291 numbers/letters/characters in this set (in photos, please see letter chart for reference). This set of type measures approximately 3.5 x 5” and is best shipped in a small flat rate box as it weighs over 4.11 lbs. There are roughly 14 extra quads in this set to square it. Many of these look completely unused or barely used. This case was very clean and most look to be in amazing shape. PLEASE NOTE - SET SPECIFIC INFORMATION: We have encountered a few sets here and there that have missing letters or only have ONE of a specific letter or figure. This is one of those instances SO it is what it is. There are NO uppercase “H” and a couple only have one piece. This is a very rare set of type, it is almost complete but low on specific figures. We are having to go deep into some older books and getting help from some letterpress experts to find information on some of these harder to find sets.For shipment, each set is tied with string and then taped, and finally sandwiched between thick cardboard with more tape, then brown paper, a Ziplock bag and then bubble wrap. The top will be marked for easier opening. OPEN WITH CAUTION or you will have a pile of type on your floor. Please see photos for type condition, these were all used previously so there may be flaws, corrosion (type lice), ink or other imperfections. We MAY add a random number of spacers to make this set as square as possible. Please be aware that working with this many letters we can make mistakes, but we are doing our best! All of the type in this listing comes from the printing press that was originally located at Redwood High School in Larkspur, California. We are unsure how many decades the high school had this press or the type, but we believe it dates back to the early 1900s. Our father purchased the press, the cabinets, the drawers, and the type in the 1970s and it has been sitting in storage for over 50 years. We are slowly separating out sets of type for sale. In early 2016, we began clearing out our father's 1500 square foot warehouse that has been used to store a seemingly infinite number of items since 1970. Our family owned a military surplus store in the 1970s, and he purchased surplus in bulk at Department of Defense Auctions from local Military Bases (Alameda, Mare Island, and Hamilton). All inventories that weren’t sold when the store closed (circa 1977) were stored in this warehouse. He had accumulated many tools such as wrenches - a large number of 1-1/4" and larger that were used for ship building, CASES of fasteners, screws, nuts, washers, etc., most are aviation and nautical, general military surplus including clothing, patches, flight suits, flight helmets, and thousands of miscellaneous items. The collection includes a very large number of naval block and tackle (wood frames with iron sheaves and hooks, painted battleship grey, with single, double and triple sheave sizes), some helicopter and airplane parts (mostly hydraulic actuators/servos, some clamps and small connectors), and other random items such as office supplies, medical devices, small boat props, glassware, dishware, and "DANGER MINES" signs from the early 1950s just to name a few. Most of the military surplus was made and manufactured in the 1950s and 1960s and much of it is still in the original packaging with dates and part numbers. Our father purchased most of these items by the pallet, so the volume is overwhelming. In fact, the warehouse was packed to the rafters with boxes when we started. He did not exclusively buy military surplus; he bought the inventory from many local business that were closing their doors, such as a lamp company, a record store, and a number of book stores. This huge warehouse has slowly been filled with other random items purchased over the years, so we have countless glass lamp shades, vintage metal (mainly brass) lamp parts, and boxes and boxes and BOXES of books and LPs which we had already been selling online since 2007. We have worked extremely hard to whittle down the inventory to a manageable amount, so we are now, finally, able to slowly start putting some items up for sale. We will describe the condition and provenance of these items to the best of our ability and include multiple photos with every listing.
