Using a tube the size of the discharge outlet or larger is strongly suggested to reduce friction flow loss. The pump will produce less and less flow the higher you pump the water until you reach the max head height at which the pump will produce a very small flow of water and above that height it will cease discharging water. If you do not achieve the flow you want it does not mean there is something wrong with the pump - only you ordered too small a unit.
