The push button switch is usable through the bag so it can be tested without opening. There are three modes. Push the button to change modes from off to on, fast blinking, slow blinking, and off again. Some might switch modes in reverse order. I have personally tested each and every light to have a functioning switch and batteries. You won't get any dysfunctional DUD / DOA pieces like you probably would get from elsewhere (well, maybe a couple, because I'm only human, and ship happens!)
