Description: eBay: This bone is from the Mule Deer (Odocoileus hemionus), not an endangered species of deer. Each buyer gets 10 beads. Spanish traders brought Padre trade beads to North America in the 1600-1700's. The sky blue bead was considered a chief's bead and were the most desirable. Next in line was the blood red padre. In the creation of these red beads, gold was actually an ingredient, colored with actual gold, sparingly applied by skilled bead makers. The most ironic thing about this is that, although the red beads were the most expensive to make, the bead makers used a cheap color to initially fill up the bead’s core before the red was applied sparingly only on the bead’s outer layer. It was very difficult to trade with the Native Americans if you didn't have Venetian or Padre beads. Each buyer gets 10 beads. Here is a very nice collection of (10) pre-1800 Padre bone trade beads. Beautiful patina and color. The surface shows a very nice patina with signs of age. Each bead is unique and different. A fine collection of artifacts for your collection. My father left these artifacts and many many more items to me and I am passing them along to you. I hope my customers will enjoy their purchase.
