Description: These Trachycarpus wagnerianus x princeps NewForm are hybrids bred in the UK. Trachycarpus wagnerianus grows similar to fortunei in form and hardiness but with very stiff foliage. Trachycarpus princeps is a separate species from Stone Gate Mountain in China. It has more evenly divided leaves with a blueish color on top and white backs. The New Form is from a different location nearby but is a separate disjunct population. It has similar features to regular princeps but with faster growth. It still has much of the princeps coloration but it's slightly less pronounced. It was once thought to be a Nova Hybrid and is sometimes referred to as Princeps Hybrid. It's now thought to be a new variation. Trachycarpus princeps and wagnerianus have a similar hardiness to around 5f once completely established. Plant them is mostly sun with good drainage. Standard Trachycarpus princeps grows on steep rocky cliffs so they like good drainage. Trachycarpus wagnerianus hybrids are more adaptable to our heavy soils.
